Frog With Flag

Do you love frogs and want to learn first hand how nonprofit organizations are managed, while meeting lots of new contacts in the amphibian conservation world and providing significant assistance to your favorite frog-saving charity?

  • Are you are organized, responsible, and dependable?
  • Do you have basic technology skills and a willingness to learn what you don’t yet know?
  • Do you have a solid internet connection?
  • Do you have six hours per week to volunteer over the next three months?

If you answered YES! to all those questions, then you should consider applying to be an Executive Assistant for SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger. If chosen as the successful applicant, you will assist Dr. Kriger on a variety of tasks that can be done from your home computer from anywhere in the world. You will learn many new skills and have a much more in-depth understanding of amphibian conservation and the multitude of ways one can save the frogs and the planet.

If you have questions about this volunteer position, please email them to contact@savethefrogs.com with Volunteer Opportunity: Executive Assistant in the subject line and ask prior to applying.

To apply, please:
(1) Email contact@savethefrogs.com with Volunteer Opportunity: Executive Assistant in the subject line;

A note from Dr. Kerry Kriger
Here are answers to a couple questions I received after first posting this announcement:

(1) What kind of work would I be doing?
Answer: I could list out five projects I have on my mind but they would not predict what tasks would come up once they are complete, so I prefer to not be specific. Generally speaking, you would be doing internet research and computer work that I either currently do myself or that does not get done at all due to my lack of time to do it. You would be helping me with things I need to do as they arise. Some of this would likely be very interesting and some of it possibly very boring (I suggest a good music playlist for such times). All of it would be helping SAVE THE FROGS! be more effective and I have no doubt you would expand your knowledge of amphibian conservation and likely make some important contacts.  Rather than telling you that everything you do will be the most amazingly interesting projects imaginable, I prefer you go in expecting boring computer tasks, and that you be willing to take your chances that working directly with someone who has the knowledge, skills and connections you seek will yield significant benefit to your career.

(2) If I have to leave to do some fieldwork for, lets say 3 to 4 days, will I be able to complete my tasks on my return without affecting your work?
Answer: You could certainly go away for fieldwork. There are no strict timetables; I just expect an honest attempt to find six hours per week to assist. I understand sometimes that may not be possible.

The last time I offered an Executive Assistant position, the successful applicant went on to gain employment with SAVE THE FROGS! and has traveled to tropical rainforests with SAVE THE FROGS! for free, on top of being a part of many other SAVE THE FROGS! adventures and successes. Anything is possible.

FrogWatch USA is a citizen science program of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) that provides individuals, groups, and families with an opportunity to learn about wetlands in their communities and report data on the calls of local frogs and toads. Data have been collected since 1998 from every state in the United States. You do not have to be a frog or toad expert to make an important contribution!

AZA FrogWatch USA Logo

You should participate if you have:

- An interest in learning about frogs and toads
- The commitment to learn and identify their distinct calls
- The ability to make several evening observations from February through August

You can be directly involved in gathering information that may help stop the decline of these treasured animals. Monitoring can be done independently or as part of a group. A volunteer listens for just three minutes, records what species they hear, and then enters the data into the national Frog Watch Field Scope database. To get started and find free listening workshops near you where you will learn the calls of all local frog and toad species go to: www.aza.org/frogwatch

The California Fish & Game Commission (FGC) holds regular public meetings at which citizens are generally granted two minutes to speak on any relevant environmental topic. As the FGC holds significant power with respect to the continuance of American Bullfrog importations, SAVE THE FROGS! seeks supporters willing to attend upcoming meetings and read aloud 2-minute messages on behalf of SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger. These messages will update the FGC on relevant action steps they can take to bring the importations to an end.

The FGC and the Department of Fish & Wildlife (DFW) have the authority to stop the importations and their own scientists have created a detailed report detailing the numerous harms caused by non-native American Bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana), yet the DFW continues to issue permits that allow over a million non-native bullfrogs to enter the state each year.

If you can attend and speak at any of the meetings listed below, please email contact@savethefrogs.com with a few sentences about yourself. Be sure to inform us which meeting you could commit to attending.
